I knew it was going to be hot, raced in it before, so I did not pay that much attention other than take some extra endourolites... Met some other Cat 1 fools who were pretty cool dudes..
Anyway, at the start, we all headed down a gravel drive for what seemed like a mile, a gap opened up with a couple of guys up front, saw Gmapes hammering it along. I put in a good little dig and closed most of it before we hit the singletrack... Little did I know at the time, this first 3 min would be the highlight of my performance.
Plugged along pretty well most of the lap but started to feel a bit drained by the end of it. Think I was 4th or something by the end of lap one.
At the end of this lap is where something funny kind of happened. Every race I have ever entered, I have had that fire in me that wants to push as hard as I can until the very end. Well on Sunday that fire was out....
Not sure why or how to get it back, it just is what it is... Well, that's the end of this race story...

Good Job JP on a strong performance on your first Cat 1 race... I promise to be better competition on future races...
Owe, can't believe I almost forgot to mention Brad... He won his first race on Sunday!!!! Awesome!!! At the risk of sounding kinda hederochallenged, proud of ya dude....
BTW, I am pretty sure this is my last season on a hardtail... I am becoming a sissy and am tired of getting beat up.....
